The Healthy Mom and Baby Foundation is a public charitable organization that is operated as a 501(c) (3) organization in which the mom-to-be and baby\u2019s wellness is our main goal.<\/p>\n

Our Mission:
The Healthy Mom and Baby Foundation believes that every mom deserves to have a happy and healthy pregnancy. We believe a healthy pregnancy leads to a healthy baby. (Healthy moms have healthy babies) We will achieve this goal through education and also by supporting (moms) and various charities that support and uphold the physical as well as the emotional needs and well-being of the new mom-to-be as well as her baby. We will also support organizations that provide care and well-being for mom and baby.<\/p>\n

According to the Department of Health and Human Services,<\/p>\n

Black, American Indian, and Alaska Native (AI\/AN) women are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women \u2013 and this disparity increases with age, researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report today in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR)<\/a>, that most pregnancy-related deaths are preventable. Racial and ethnic disparities in pregnancy-related deaths have persisted over time.<\/p>\n

Pregnancy-related deaths per 100,000 live births (the pregnancy-related mortality ratio or PRMR) for black and AI\/AN women older than 30 was four to five times as high as it was for white women. Even in states with the lowest PRMRs and among women with higher levels of education, significant differences persist. These findings suggest that the disparity observed in pregnancy-related death for black and AI\/AN women is a complex national problem.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese disparities are devastating for families and communities and we must work to eliminate them,\u201d said Emily Petersen, M.D., medical officer at CDC\u2019s Division of Reproductive Health and lead author of the report. \u201cThere is an urgent need to identify and evaluate the complex factors contributing to these disparities and to design interventions that will reduce preventable pregnancy-related deaths.\u201d<\/p>\n

The CDC\u2019s Pregnancy-Related Mortality Surveillance System (PMSS)<\/a> defines a pregnancy-related death as the death of a woman during pregnancy or within one year of the end of pregnancy from a pregnancy complication; a chain of events initiated by pregnancy; or the aggravation of an unrelated condition by the physiologic effects of pregnancy.<\/p>\n

These are alarming statics that we feel need to be addressed as quickly as possible so this is where we will be focused in the future.<\/p>\n

Disparity in maternal health are alarming and have effected many we know and love.<\/p>\n

So, for these reasons we are refocusing & redirecting our commitment to focus on Black Mortality within the Antelope Valley\/Los Angeles areas as women of color (Black, American Indian, and Alaska Native (AI\/AN)) are 2-3 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women.<\/p>\n

So while our mission has been redirected our commitment is still the same: healthy pregnancies and healthy babies lead to healthy lives and stronger healthier more vibrant communities.<\/p>\n\n\n
